Complaining

Hello Church Family—I hope you were able to pause or otherwise engage in yesterday as our nation marked a National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. A day that intentionally honours and remembers the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities is the least we can do to acknowledge this painful history and the ongoing impacts of residential schools. Please join me in praying for healing in our land.


This weekend’s message in our No More series we’re going to talk about no to complaining. By the way, I’m great at complaining. It comes very naturally to me! Nobody had to teach me, I didn’t have to learn it the hard way...it just flows. There’s no shortage of things to complain about right now, but here’s the thing, I really can’t control my circumstances.


My life experience is teaching me that complaining really doesn’t help. I’ve got some maturing ahead of me in all this, but I’m making some progress in learning that the only way to navigate deeply rooted frustrations is by changing my internal orientation. I think this is what the Apostle Paul was getting at when he said, 


“I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” Phil. 4:12

Explore how God is calling Sherwood Park Alliance to grow His ministry in the Millbourne Community. 


The morning of Saturday, October 2, will include a prayer walk around Millbourne. We will be praying for the people of the Millbourne community and asking God to prepare the minds and hearts of ourselves, as well as those with whom we will meet, as we begin the community engagement work.

Kids Ministries is reopening! Starting this weekend, October 3, we will reopen Kids Ministries for all ages on Sunday mornings only.


If you wish your children to attend our October cohort, please register at spac.ca/welcomebackkids. Registration is now open.

Bring your non-perishable food items to the atrium on Thanksgiving weekend, October 9 and 10. We'll be collecting food for those in need. 


This year we're giving all food items collected to our We Care ministry.

Alpha is a safe place to discuss, question, and find community. It's open to everyone, from those who are looking for life answers to those who are new in the faith.


Starting Tuesday, October 12 for 10 weeks, Sherwood Park Alliance will be hosting Alpha. Register at spac.ca/groupfinder.

This year there will be two Clothing Exchanges held—one at Sherwood Park Alliance on October 23 and one at Millbourne Community Life Centre on October 30.
