I AM: The Gate for the Sheep

Happy (Spring) Friday Friends,

Rather than using this space to preview the weekend message (Well, just a little teaser…this week I’ll attempt to decipher what Jesus was getting at when He called Himself “…the gate.” It’s pretty cool), today I want to invite some of you to consider committing to the rest of the church family through Membership.
The way we practice membership is somewhat dictated by the Societies Act, which ensures that registered charities are ultimately governed by their members. Participating members of our church determine budgets, choose directors, and contribute to mission and vision conversations. Therefore, membership matters and our members matter.
But more significant than government regulations, membership is a statement. To join a church is to commit to a social circle you don’t choose, which makes it a way to demonstrate whether your spirituality is authentic. It’s a way of practicing what you’d like the world to be like over a significant period of time. It’s a way to organize your life around a time to confess your limitations, culpability and imperfections to that you can get used to receiving divine forgiveness and hope in response to your honesty (adapted from comments made by Portland, OR, pastor Sharad Yadav).
I will lead a couple of Membership Classes in the next few days, both in-person and online. It’s roughly 60-75 minutes max, with some information, conversation, and step-by-step guidance on processing things and taking your next steps. If you can invest that time, how about joining us? More info and registration here.
Take care,

Greg Hochhalter | Lead Pastor
